Choose a style

Just like when you’re preparing to furnish your house, when decorating your holiday flat you need to set a style; will it be a marine-themed house? Or country style? An industrial flat or a more shabby chic one? A triumph of inflatables and posters?

Obviously the list could go on and on, and probably even further; if you start mixing styles, ideas, shapes and colours you will get a different result every time. But remember two fundamental guidelines: coherence and sobriety.

A house furnished in a coherent way, which therefore respects the same mood (or at least a basic idea) in all rooms will be more harmonious, and therefore psychologically relaxing, for you and any guests or tenants. And if you’re a little short on ideas, remember that ProduceShop always has a fantastic interior designer service at its disposal; start by talking to us, we’ll find a solution together!

Sobriety: a full house, but not too much!

While it’s true that furnishing means giving personality to an environment (your own personality usually), it’s also true that, depending on the house, sometimes it’s better to hold back a little; not that it’s wrong to express yourself, just that you need to consider all the factors with a more practical eye.

Remember that the holiday home is not where you spend most of your time; the most useful objects and the most precious decorations are better off in the first home. If you have to rent it out, leaving fewer items means leaving fewer furnishings and ornaments at risk of accident.

It is also better to avoid personal photos, or any family references; if necessary, you can take them with you on your holidays without any problems and keep them with you, without having to show them to tenants or risk forgetting them for all the months you will be away.

  1. Small trick: carpets

Whether it’s because we like to go barefoot on holiday or because we like to have more colour around us, choosing beautiful carpets for your holiday home is a good decision. Whether you choose to put them in the living room or bedroom, or even in the bathroom, make sure of certain qualities. First of all, materials, colours, textures and softness; not only because you have to walk on them, but because hygiene and cleanliness of the carpet (and therefore of the house) also depend on these characteristics. One important thing: non-slip bottom, for your safety and that of plausible tenants (who don’t want to fly through the air!).

  2. Lamps, for the right light

Distributing the lighting in an intelligent way can be an excellent opportunity to decorate home. If you choose free-standing lamps, wall lamps, floor lamps and table lamps for ambient lighting, you can easily illuminate and decorate rooms at the same time. In addition, non-fixed lighting not only provides more light points distributed in different areas, but also allows a greater degree of customization and a more targeted choice of areas to be lit. Obviously choose wall lights, or floor and table lamps, that are in line with the style of the holiday home and the furnishings.

  3. Mattresses

If we’re going on holiday to chill out, relaxation should be complete; this includes sleeping peacefully at night (and morning, and afternoon, and whenever). So choose quality mattresses for beds and sofa beds. Waking up in the morning with a terrible backache certainly doesn’t put us in a good mood for a day at the beach or skiing; choose only memory foam or pocketed spring products, for maximum comfort and rest, made from verified materials and reliable manufacturers.

  4. Sofas

Whether it’s for hosting a friend or relaxing in the afternoon, sofas should also be chosen with care. Not only for their usefulness, but also for the pleasant effect they can have on the decor. As holiday homes are usually smaller than first homes choose small sofas, about two seats. If it is a sofa bed, even better, both for the extra seats in case of need and for the prospect of possibly renting an extra bed.
